Brent Batten: World Pickleball Capital has a ring to it

Pro Women's Singles Gold Medal Match - US Open Pickleball Championships

"Tournament organizers said they heard complaints about some of the courts at the venue. As a result, says Collier County Tourism Director Jack Wert, the county will consider adding and resurfacing courts. An open-air covering for the championship court is also on the wish list along with a handful of other upgrades.

All told, the improvements could add up to about $300,000 in the county budget, which will be developed in the coming weeks.

"It's an investment. We really want to grow the sport," Wert said.

To further cement Collier's claim to the title, Wert envisions the facility hosting state and regional pickleball tournaments in addition to the U.S. Open. When not hosting a tournament, the courts are available for public use."
