Pickleball spreading In Orange County (2013); Lemaster-Davison Classic Sun City, AZ (Video)

Lemaster-Davison Classic-Pickleball. Open Men's Doubles Finals. Dave Weinbach and Oliver Strecker v Marcin Rozpedski and Morgan Evans. Sun City, AZ. 4-10-16.

"It's no surprise that a game called pickleball is still pretty obscure to the general public.

The name, which comes from the dog of the game's founders (his name was Pickles), might be holding back the sport, but it's actually picking up steam in Orange County and beyond.

Pickleball is played on a badminton-sized court (20feet wide and 22 feet long on each side), with a lowered, thigh-high badminton net.

The rules are similar to other tennis-type sports, but the game is played with a thick wiffle ball, which makes a loud "pop" sound every time it is struck with a paddle that looks like a cross between a personal wooden pizza peel and a ping-pong paddle."
